Northern Premier League Club
"Sustain didn't just write a strategy. They sat in the operations room, mapped every fan journey, and built a modal shift programme that the board approved in a single session."
The club faced a filing deadline under CSRD and a board that had never quantified Scope 3 exposure. Fan travel — 38,000 supporters arriving predominantly by private car every other Saturday — represented 71% of the total carbon footprint. The number was uncomfortable. It was also an opportunity.
Sustain deployed a three-phase intervention: a full Scope 1–3 baseline audit using GHGP Sport methodology, a behavioural economics-led fan travel programme anchored to matchday transport partnerships, and a data infrastructure layer that feeds the annual sustainability report automatically.
Within 14 months, measurable modal shift reduced matchday emissions by 62%. The club filed its first CSRD-compliant report with zero restatements. The board approved a five-year net-zero roadmap in the same quarter.
